Portrait captures for Montecristo Magazine that day were assigned to highlight Tannis Ling—the talent behind Kissa Tanto as well as Bao Bei—in her freshly completed space. Set on the ground floor of a three-story, character building in Chinatown, Ling, alongside co-owner/chefs Joël Watanabe and Alain Chow, developed concepts of places that she herself wanted to be in, particularly at that time, and this was no different. Meo, through the lens of her 20s, is a harmonious blend of style, indulgence, and an “effortlessly cool” environment. And, confident in style, set within her new space, she too embodies that very same effortless feeling.

An entirely different experience from the other two restaurants, though wonderfully complimentary for an evening out, Meo draws on a feeling, if not innate inspiration, that nods to the 1970s. Telltale signs are found within the choice of plush velvet, intriguing, large-form artwork, shapely, bold lighting, and of course, the tones that wrap its entirety. The interior was brought to life by Ste Marie Studio, known for their bespoke touch, and perfectly suited graphic design by Glasfurd & Walker (note the playful menu). The eye doesn’t settle easily, drawn every which way at once. And the lives that were lived by the eclectic collection of pieces showcased in the space alongside one another are sure to conjure the imagination and conversation.

A choice for an experience unlike others within our city, one can expect intimate seating, delicious share plates (naturally), and perhaps most famed of all: the incredibly unique cocktails. Truly a delight for curious minds.
